"Serenity" charity benefit screening

Riverview Theater
Saturday, June 23 11:30 pm
All seats: $10 at the door

All Proceeds benefit Equality Now

Dear Advance Ticket Buyers,

You won’t need to stand in the normal ticket line; please go directly to the ticket booth area and look for the Will-Call staff.  Upon will-call name check-in, you will receive the remaining items for your purchased package.

The film is scheduled to begin at 11:30pm on Saturday, June 23rd at Riverview Theater, Minneapolis.  However, you are strongly advised to arrive early.  Some folks, including event staff will be gathering at Riverview Café across the street from the theater at least 2 hours before the doors will officially open to event goers.  At this time, we don’t know what time the film preceding our event will let out which is the deciding factor regarding admission time.  However, admission will likely begin around 11:00pm.

We have some exciting door and raffle prizes as well as exclusive event merchandise lined up for the event including items from The Prop Store of London, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, Sihnon Prints, Black Market Beagles, Done The Impossible, Universal Home Entertainment, BenBella Books, Chipotle and many, many more!  Cash and checks will be accepted at the event.  An ATM is also available at Riverview Theater.  And don’t forget, we have free gifts (very shiny) for the first 100 people admitted!

Thank you again and looking forward to seeing you at the event!

What is Equality Now?  Equality Now is an international organization which works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. Issues of concern to Equality Now include:  RAPE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS TRAFFICKING FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION POLITICAL PARTICIPATION GENDER DISCRIMINATION.

Joss Whedon, the writer/director of Serenity, said of Equality Now, “There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That’s me. The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one basis. That’s a great deal harder, and that’s Equality Now. It’s not about politics; it’s about basic human decency.”
