THANK YOU to everyone who attended
the Can't Stop The Serenity event in Minneapolis, MN. We had an attendance
of over 600 shiny people! That beats last year's attendance by nearly 200
and the venue was actually on the verge of turning folks away from the event
as a sell out! *applause*
I'd especially like to thank everyone for being so patient. I know the lines
and waits were long at many points, and the event had a very late start due
to these long lines. Add to that the late schedule that already existed
making
for a long night, and for this I do apologize and commend everyone who kept
their sense of humor in a very warm theater.
We learned a lot from the 2006 event and tried to correct some problem areas
in the 2007 event. 2008 will be better, I promise! Hee hee.
We raised $6,158.82 for Equality Now! This is a tad lower than the
preliminary estimate due to some odd math challenges while handling another
participating city's ticketing. We're proud to have had a hand in
keeping the Tampa, FL event in flight.
I'd like to thank Heather White, Mia Hagarty, Sally Karkula,
DRE, Jukite, and Gempai for their unending patience and limitless energy in
event planning and working the event; Barb Jungbauer (Knibblet) for taking
the microphone at the event so that I would not have to fight that
particular stage fright demon; and the numerous other
folk who stepped up and did what they could, where and when they could:
Catherine Cochran, Susan Henry, Kit Gordon, Ben Huset for taking outstanding
pictures of the event, Chilly Willy and Molotov also for taking pictures at
the event, and Molotov again for his never failing help with flyers, and all
the folks who stuck around and helped clean up the auditorium after the
event. I would have gone crazy and thrown in the towel if not for all
the browncoats who held me up.
I'm proud of the Minnesota team
effort and fans who supported this event.
Thank you again and keep flyin'!

If you're interested in a more leisurely
shindig, please check out the SERENITY Galley party room at
CONvergence July 6 and 7. Suite 202. A
CONvergence badge is not required to visit the non-alcohol party
room.
The SERENITY Galley will be
recreated at room 202, where you can share your own war stories
while enjoying a nice bowl of "wife soup" and non alcoholic
Mudder's Milk. Watch out for Patience and Badger among
other characters, we hear tell they're not to be trusted.
Paypal donations to help with party
room costs enormously appreciated! Thank you!

What
is Equality Now? Equality Now is an international organization
which works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls
around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. Issues of
concern to Equality Now include: RAPE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS TRAFFICKING FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION POLITICAL
PARTICIPATION GENDER DISCRIMINATION.
Joss Whedon, the
writer/director of Serenity, said of Equality Now,
“There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper
in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the
gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That’s me.
The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities
that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one
basis. That’s a great deal harder, and that’s Equality Now. It’s not
about politics; it’s about basic human decency.”
